Fundraising goals

Football for Africa’s goals are to raise funds to provide sports equipment in schools in the Taveta district, between Mombasa and Nairobi, such as the village schools in Mahandakini, Kasaani and Kidong, as well as the Kangemi slum school in Nairobi. St. Stephen’s students, on an official St. Stephen’s summer trip to Kenya in 2011, visited these villages and worked as volunteers in a GVI (http://www.gvi.co.uk/) project. Another goal of the project is to raise funds to assist Opportunitas Aequa (http://oaprojects.org/), a Canadian NGO, in building football pitches, providing materials, training volunteer coaches and planting trees in war-torn Northern Uganda where football is having a beneficial effect on the local communities.

Football for Africa’s events

During the academic year we hold an intramural St. Stephen’s calcetto tournament, a cultural evening with the screening of the film “Africa United” and a drive to collect football jerseys to take to the Kenyan schools.
